AGREED

Awesome!

But... couldn't you have just made a couple of themes instead of modifying a whole distro of Linux? Its pretty much just a mod of Ubuntu anyways...

Its still awesome though.

Well, after I'd done the theme, it still looked a little plain and boring, so I added wallpapers and the Conky sidepanel to make it look cool, then just finished off the whole redecoration and did the bootup screen and login screen.

It's just a rethemed Ubuntu though, so it'll be compatible with everything, and the interface layout is still normal.

Anyway, on Sunday I'll try and roll out the first beta, need to fix a couple of glitches first though.

yay.

Woop woop.

Looking nice. Since you said it is a customized version of Ubuntu, when you release it, could you also post individual files.

Also, nice to see Conky about, even if I haven't a clue on how to do anything major with it.

Sure, I'll be posting individual theme files and modified configs for people who want to just customise an existing Ubuntu installation.

And yeah, Conky has really gained a lot of popularity ever since Crunchbang started using it, and it's not as hard to configure as you might think. I might even write a small guide about it if I get the time.

looks ... amazing! that's amazing! when its done were can i get it?

I'll be making a BBS thread with a download link when it's done. I'll also put the link on this page, so just keep an eye out for it. This will hopefully be in about a week :)

that sounds really cool!!
great idea!

Thanks :D

Gnarly mang, I am so replacing my current Ubuntu installation with that.

Good to hear!

Will it have the jiggly windows like in Ubuntu?

Yup, fully jiggly windows built in, you just need to enable them in the options menu.

Also, replace the ubuntu logo with tank_sm.gif

Funny, I was just thinking that, I might very well do. It's already in the login screen but you can't get enough tank_sm.gif

great!

and question, can it run on my macbook?

If it's an Intel-based Mac, then yeah, it should work perfectly.

You should use the flash preloader for the bootup screen.
Also the emoticons for error message icons, sorta like how we have the agnry faic for errors.

Ubuntu rocks my socks! And guitar. It's pretty damn good at guitar...

Wow... Newgrounds Linux looks cool! I hope it all works out - I want to try this out when it's released.

If you want to give people an easy way to get all the stuff you can't leave in, how about compiling a 'Starter Pack' or something? You could add all the apps and stuff you couldn't put on the CD, and host it on the NG Linux site.

Might not be the best idea if the site has a limited amount of bandwidth etc.

Either way, that looks like a great Operating System.

The Starter Pack seems like a good idea. I might just make it a script that automatically installs the extra programs, and have the shortcut on the desktop when the OS installs. Luckily there isn't too much left out of the CD, so it shouldn't be a big hassle.

Thanks for the comment!

I am so totally getting that. I lost my Ubuntu CD anyways, and this will be awesome. Linx to the website?

Website is half way through being made, I'll update the blog post when it's done.

Nice man. Care to make a version compatable with the PS3?

Unfortunately I don't have a PS3 so I couldn't. I'm sure that somebody will though since I'll be releasing all the themes seperately with the launch.

Launch is tomorrow by the way.

So basically it's Ubunto with NG graphics and fonts?

Pretty much, plus some tweaks that means Flash Player is already installed, and it will play DVDs and stuff without needing to install any plugins.
Sure it isn't something massive, but it's a pretty nice small spinoff.

You should talk to Tom and see what he thinks of this. Something tells me he'll be pleased.

Ha, yeah, I can always hope. Some store credit would be nice :P
